A-HEC: Have you observed any characteristics that fit a community profile in determining the need for E-ship courses?

AMS: Not really. I have done some consulting in large cities and small towns and each has their own needs and opportunity varies from place to place. In the final analysis however entrepreneurship can happen anywhere especially with access to the Web.

A-HEC: Have you observed any momentum in this area at the college or university level?

How might such a course of study differ from say a bachelor’s degree in business administration or an M.B.A.?

AMS: There is some momentum at both levels and I think it will grow modestly as community colleges produce more graduates with E-ship degrees. Bachelors degrees and Masters degrees will differ from M.B.A. requirements in large part by the amount of hands-on activities. Students will be required to develop sophisticated business plans , understand the concepts around raising capital, grasp the full meaning of risk management and be required to do meaningful research to support their business concept. For many this will be the groundwork on which their business will be built.

A-HEC: Do you think it feasible that one day students might be able to earn a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurial studies?

AMS: Absolutely…There are some colleges offering them now. It probably will not grow exponentially but we will likely see some growth.

"Not everyone can be an entrepreneur, but everyone can learn valuable lessons from formal entrepreneurship education that will serve them well in most any field of endeavor. "
